See The Field

Hey friend,

One of my favorite films of all time is The Legend of Bagger Vance.

On the surface, it’s a golf movie.

But beneath that, it’s a lesson in focus, presence, and the ability to truly see what’s in front of you.

The story follows Randolph Junah (played by Matt Damon), a once-promising golfer who fell short of his potential. Years later, he returns to the game, lost and out of sync.

And then comes the moment that changes everything.

Bagger Vance (played by Will Smith) tells him:

“It’s time to see the field.”

At first, Junah doesn’t get it.

But Bagger Vance instructs him to watch another competitor prepare for a shot—study his movements, his focus, his presence.

“He’s searching for something.”

“He can feel that focus.”

It’s not about mechanics. It’s not about technique.

It’s about tuning into the moment.

So Junah steps up for his shot.

And something shifts.

The noise disappears.

The distractions fade away.

The crowd dissolves.

All that remains is the flag.

This is what it means to see the field.

It’s something I try to pass on to athletes.

Because it's something I did (after watching this film as a kid).

But here’s the thing—this level of focus doesn’t just happen in high-pressure moments.

You have to train it.

You have to practice it.

You have to bring the field to you.

Because seeing the field isn’t just about your surroundings.

It’s about what happens inside your mind.

So ask yourself:

Can you see the people watching you?

Can you feel the pressure of their expectations?

Can you visualize your opponent, their movements, their decisions?

And while all of that is happening—

Can you still see the field?

The field is not just the environment.

It’s how you exist in it.

Your posture. Your body language.

Your thoughts. Your breathing.

The way you talk to yourself.

Seeing the field isn’t just looking—it’s experiencing.

And when you truly see the field

You realise it's not just out there, but inside you.

Quote I liked

You don’t have to change anything, but nothing will change.

Recommendation for you

Watch The Legend Of Bagger Vance

A great heartwarming film, whether you’re a golf fan or not.

Hey friend, I rewatched a clip from a Jim Carrey commencement speech, where he talked about his father. His dad had the chance to follow a passion — ironically, comedy — but chose a “safe” job instead. A practical option. A stable path. But the safe path wasn’t so safe. He was laid off. Lost everything. And that’s when Carrey realised: if even the safe option can fail, why not take a chance on what you really want? That lesson stuck with me. But — it comes with a warning. As Scott Galloway...

Hey friend, Real quick, I've got an idea for coaches, so if you are on, check this out. Anyway. I found this neat little trick you can use when your mind starts spiralling — when you’re anxious, under pressure, or frustrated. Most of us, when we feel overwhelmed, get swept away by our emotions. We start running on autopilot. Thoughts get loud. Rational thinking disappears. And we spiral. One way to stop that spiral is to disassociate — to create just enough space between you and what you’re...

Hey friend, I think we witnessed one of the greatest sporting finals in a long time — if not in history. But more than that, we witnessed something that can teach us a lesson in life. Carlos Alcaraz was 5–3 down in the third set against Jannik Sinner. And while many in that situation — after a long tournament, a long journey toward something they desperately want — would throw in the towel, Alcaraz didn’t. He showed us how sport is a mirror to life. Because if you can bring yourself back to...
