Hey friend, I've been thinking a lot recently about comparison. It's something that's come up a lot with athletes I've been speaking and working with. I even did a youtube video on something similar. Not the obvious kind, where we measure ourselves against people we don’t know. But the subtle kind—where we measure ourselves against who we thought we’d be by now. It’s easy to look at someone else’s story and think, Why isn’t mine going that way? Or to revisit the imagined future we mapped out years ago and feel like we’ve missed the mark. But just because your story isn’t going the same way as someone else’s… And just because it isn’t unfolding the way you expected… Doesn’t mean it’s worse. It just means it’s yours. And the more time you spend trying to edit your present to match someone else’s path—or an alternate version of your own—the further you drift from where life is actually happening. We get caught in mental parallel universes. What if I had made that choice instead?
What if I had stayed? Left? Said yes? Said no?
These imagined versions of life might feel harmless. But they quietly erode our ability to be fully in the one we’re actually living. Every time I’ve chased those parallel stories, I’ve missed what was real— The people in front of me. The place I was in. The moment I was meant to be part of. And the more time you spend in the life that isn’t, the less you connect with the life that is. So if you’re questioning your story right now— The pace, the direction, the outcomes— Remember: you’re not falling behind. You’re just not there yet. And the only thing you actually miss out on… Is the one life that’s happening right in front of you. Hey friend, I rewatched a clip from a Jim Carrey commencement speech, where he talked about his father. His dad had the chance to follow a passion — ironically, comedy — but chose a “safe” job instead. A practical option. A stable path. But the safe path wasn’t so safe. He was laid off. Lost everything. And that’s when Carrey realised: if even the safe option can fail, why not take a chance on what you really want? That lesson stuck with me. But — it comes with a warning. As Scott Galloway...
Hey friend, Real quick, I've got an idea for coaches, so if you are on, check this out. Anyway. I found this neat little trick you can use when your mind starts spiralling — when you’re anxious, under pressure, or frustrated. Most of us, when we feel overwhelmed, get swept away by our emotions. We start running on autopilot. Thoughts get loud. Rational thinking disappears. And we spiral. One way to stop that spiral is to disassociate — to create just enough space between you and what you’re...
Hey friend, I think we witnessed one of the greatest sporting finals in a long time — if not in history. But more than that, we witnessed something that can teach us a lesson in life. Carlos Alcaraz was 5–3 down in the third set against Jannik Sinner. And while many in that situation — after a long tournament, a long journey toward something they desperately want — would throw in the towel, Alcaraz didn’t. He showed us how sport is a mirror to life. Because if you can bring yourself back to...
